Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Nomos, including our website, desktop application, Word add-in, and related services (together, the "Service"), operated by Nomos ("Nomos," "we," "us," or "our").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you are using Nomos on behalf of an organization, you confirm you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

1. What Nomos is, and is not

Nomos is a research assistance tool. It uses AI to help you find, understand, review, and draft legal material grounded in statutory and regulatory text.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to use Nomos. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.

Access to Nomos is currently invitation-based. We may grant, revoke, or restrict access at our discretion.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use Nomos to provide legal advice to third parties without appropriate professional oversight and verification
• Input content you are not authorized to submit, including client information you do not have permission to process through a third-party tool
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract the underlying models, data, or corpora that power Nomos
• Use the Service to build a competing product
• Use automated means to access the Service beyond normal use of the product's own features
• Misrepresent Nomos-generated content as independently verified legal advice or as the final word on any legal question
• Use the Service in a way that violates any applicable law

We may suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms.

4. Subscriptions and payment

Paid plans are billed on a per-seat basis as described at checkout or in your order form. Fees are non-refundable except as required by law or as separately agreed in writing. We may change our pricing with notice. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new pricing for your next billing cycle.

If you are on a paid plan, payment is handled by Stripe. We do not store your full card number.

5. Intellectual property

Our IP

Nomos, including its underlying software, models, and the structure of its research corpora, is owned by us or our licensors. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our intellectual property beyond the right to use the Service as intended.

Your content

You retain ownership of the content you submit to Nomos (your questions, uploaded documents, and any material you author). You grant us a limited license to process that content solely to provide the Service to you.

Output

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, you may use the output Nomos generates for you (answers, reviews, drafts) for your own professional purposes. Because AI-generated output is not the same as human legal drafting, you are responsible for reviewing and verifying it before use.

Underlying legal material

Nomos provides access to statutes, regulations, and other legal materials under licenses from official and authorized sources. These underlying materials are not our property, and your use of them remains subject to the terms of the original source where applicable.

6. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR THAT ANY OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR CURRENT. LEGAL INFORMATION CHANGES, AND NOMOS'S CORPUS MAY NOT REFLECT THE MOST RECENT AMENDMENTS TO ANY LAW. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR INDEPENDENTLY VERIFYING ANY OUTPUT BEFORE RELYING ON IT.

7. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NOMOS AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING ANY RELIANCE ON OUTPUT WITHOUT INDEPENDENT PROFESSIONAL VERIFICATION. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Nomos harmless from any claims arising from your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your reliance on Service output without appropriate professional verification.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these Terms or for any other reason with reasonable notice, except where immediate termination is necessary to protect the Service or other users.

To request that we delete your account, use the Contact page. Account deletion is handled by us. There is not yet a self-service deletion setting in the product.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will indicate the date of the most recent update at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
